Magic is a manifestation of the unexpected.
Create magic to receive magic.
We all have the power to create magic. Magic isn’t simply the occurrence of the unexpected. Nor is it the creation of the unexpected by only gifted practitioners.
Arthur C Clarke famously said “Magic is just science we don’t understand yet.” He also said “Any sufficiently advanced technology would be indistinguishable from Magic”.
Like you, David Blaine and David Copperfield must work tirelessly for months, sometimes years, perfecting their magic. So too must you work tirelessly to develop your craft to deliver the “magic“ that your filmmakers and audiences live for.
Often it is in that tireless pursuit of excellence that one discovers the “magic“. It is, in fact, in the pursuit that the discoveries are made; when disparate ideas collide, thrown together by inspiration or desperation, to create something the sum of which no one has ever heard before.
But you cannot get there without trying and you cannot get there without trying long and hard. As my hockey coach used to say “You can’t score a goal without the puck” and of course the famous “You can’t be told no, if you don’t ask”.
When you create magic, magic comes to you.
