DO!
DO!
The most common question I am asked at seminars and lectures is what advice can I give to students who are just starting out:
DO!
Do Sound. Do anything to do with sound. Do it every day. Do it when you don’t want to. Do it when you’re not being paid. Do it because it is what you love. Do it early, do it late. Do it when you could be eating or sleeping. Do it when you’re not supposed to. Do it when you are afraid. Do it when you don’t have a clue what to do. Do the stuff you don't know how to do. Do it till you fail. Do it to explore your limitations . Do it to get it done, then do it better, then do it again to make it the best. Just DO!
REPEAT!
Don't wait for someone to ask you to do it. Don't wait to be paid to do it. Don't wait for inspiration. Don't avoid the perspiration. Don't be afraid of embarrassing yourself. Don't think you can't DO.
Get the mistakes out of the way by doing. Get the nerves out of the way by doing. Get the bad ideas out of the way by indulging in them through doing. Get the rudiments down by doing until they are second nature. Develop the mechanics till they're instinctual so that creativity isn't encumbered. Create a preternatural experience and depth of knowledge through doing, doing sound constantly. This will be your path to success.
You will wake up one day...and find yourself to be a master.
Learn and grow by doing.
